Four Tricks to a Great Day

Happy Sunday you guys! I have a love hate relationship with today, I don’t want the weekend to end BUT another week is BEGINNING and that leaves you with so many opportunities to have great days! I know this time of year can be hard. You know those days where you legit could spend all day Netflix and carbing* in bed? It happens around this time- fall is in full swing, daylight savings just hit us, and hello frost. With the cold long nights and shorter days this feeling hits hard for some but it doesn’t have to be that way! There are a couple things I try to do daily that keep me motivated, positive, and energized.

 

1)      Get moving! Do yoga, go for a run, a walk, dance! Let those feel good endorphins flow. Moving your body releases neurotransmitters like serotonin and reduces norepinephrine which helps your body respond to stress. It is also naturally energizing. Finn and I start almost every day with a dance party. There are times though I just can’t wake up! That’s when I (gently) throw Finn and the pups in the car, go for a nice walk outside, and am set for the rest of the day!

 

2)      Citrus. I diffuse essential oils like lemon, wild orange, and grapefruit but if you don’t have the oils cut open a citrus fruit and give that sucker a sniff (and while you’re at it, add it to your morning water)! This is another way to boost serotonin and reduce levels of norepinephrine so you will feel happy, energized, and calm. If you do have a diffuser but feel like citrus doesn’t match the fall or winter vibes we all love here are a couple blends I use almost daily:

3 drops wild orange                                        2 drops wild orange

2 drops clary sage                                            2 drops peppermint

2 drops Cedarwood                                        2 drops lavender

3)      Vitamin D. Get your booty outside! I know it is hard, especially with so little daylight and most people working indoors but try to take at least 15 minutes to get out there. You can also eat more Vitamin D enriched foods like salmon, eggs, milk, and spinach. Your body and mind will thank you for the extra boost of this feel good vitamin.

4)      Be grateful. This one is so incredibly important! Gratefulness goes hand and hand with mindfulness. Being present and truly appreciating everyone and everything that fills your life. It shifts your focus onto all the positive things that surround you and will keep you grounded. I am a huge believer that we should not just feel but express our gratitude. So I challenge you to tell someone how much they mean to you, write down the good things that have happened that day, say them aloud.

 

Sometimes we get so wrapped up in the hustle of life we forget how important it is to take a moment. With a Finn and two pups requiring majority of my time if I don’t give myself a couple minutes in the morning, by Thursday you can catch me in aisle 7 having a breakdown.

These four things are simple choices that are easy to do and so easy to forget. It just takes 21 days to create a habit, and these are such uplifting ones to have.
